Grammy winner Natalie Cole is preparing for the September 9th release of her new CD, Still Unforgettable. The project finds the veteran singer returning to recording timeless standards and includes a version of "Walking My Baby Back Home" in which she duets with her late father, "Nat "King" Cole.
To promote the project, Cole has lined up a number of TV appearances in New York next week. The singer will appear Tuesday (September 9th) on The CBS Early Show, and on Wednesday (September 10th) on ABC's The View. She will follow up on September 11th with an appearance on NBC's The Today Show.
In addition, Cole will appear in person at the Borders Books and Music store in Columbus Circle on September 12th.
The stars of the new film The Secret Life Of Bees -- Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, and Alicia Keys -- are hosting a special golf tournament on Sunday (September 7th) in Toronto. The all-day event will raise money for Malaria No More, an organization that helps buy mosquito nets and medicines to prevent the spread of the disease.
The trio of singer-actresses are attending the Toronto International Film Festival, where The Secret Life Of Bees is making its screen debut. Adapted from the best-selling Sue Monk Kidd novel, the film also stars Dakota Fanning and Sophie Okonedo and is directed by Gina Prince Bythewood.
With vocal powerhouses Latifah, Keys, and Hudson on board, the table readings and rehearsals for the film must have been interesting. Recently Queen Latifah joked about the scenario: "That would be hilarious. Every line we read is in melody. (Laughs.) 'Girl, your line was off-key!' 'No, it wasn't!' 'I'll scratch you blind!' 'I'll snatch you bald!' You know, it would be hilarious. (Laughs.) That's our version of a table read."
The Secret Life Of Bees makes its U.S. theatrical bow on October 17th.
